THE ASYLUM Podcast Will Be Changing Temporarily

It came to my attention today that Mevio has suspended my show from it's site without reason. Resulting in all uploaded shows of THE ASYLUM being removed from their site and not being able to be streamed or downloaded from there. They are currently still available on iTunes.

However until I can get an answer from Mevio it means all future shows will not be on iTunes because Mevio was my feed site to iTunes. If your a fan of THE ASYLUM I suggest you e-mail Mevio at support@mevio.com and tell them you want THE ASYLUM back.

I am currently looking for alternatives to keep the podcast going so hang tight and as soon as it get's figured out I'll let you know.

Disabled Gamers Being Shunned

I recently had a few exchanges over Twitter with X-Play suggesting they look into how disabled gamers are being shunned by the industry. The person running the Twitter account suggested I e-mail X-Play. I did and thought I'd share my thoughts with them with all of you:

Dear X-Play,

I recently sent a tweet to your twitter account suggesting that you guys do an in depth look at how gaming is starting to shun disabled gamers.

I'm disabled, I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy. It requires I use a wheelchair to get around and limits my mobility. As a result sports weren't an option as a kid but gaming was. I've been gaming since the NES (even have a working original Game Boy) and have owned almost every system over the years but I recent years I find myself having less gaming options.

Yes my limitations have increased as I get older and the disability limitations increase along with age but the gaming community is changing against the disabled gamer as technology is increasing when it should be helping.

Games used to allow you to customize your controller setup making it easier for disabled gamers to put key buttons within easier reach yet nowadays the only games allowing customization of controls are fighters (like SSF4, UMvC3, etc). But gamers like Call of Duty, Assasin's Creed and others like them say "here's the controls, don't like it then don't play it". My disability has resulted in me not being able to use the left triggers on controls but can work the right yet in games I mentioned I can't alter it because programmers feel its not needed and or wanted. Does the aim and fire buttons. HAVE to be left trigger? Hell, forget disabled, if your right handed wouldn't you prefer the right trigger be key buttons instead of the "useless" buttons like look around or other options?

Plus there's the biggest offender of disabled gamer discrimination in Microsoft. Kinect, you be the controller. Um, hi I'm disabled with limited movement how can I be the controller for something I can't physically do for real? Does Kinect recognize a wheelchair? Crutches? Has Microsoft even made disabled Avatars? No they haven't. I own a 360 and looked, no disabled Avatars.

There are tons if disabled gamers worldwide that are slowly being pushed out of the one thing in this world they could do just as well as healthy gamers. Hell I kicked major ass in a mini Soul Caliber tourney on the GameCube in my home a few years back, and I was drunk. I was top 10 in my Blockbuster Store when they did their gaming competition in the 90s, yet I spend more time looking for games I can play then I do playing them because the industry is forgetting disabled gamers like myself by not putting in customized controls or taking a second to think if what they've made can appeal to ALL gamers.

I hope this might intrigue you to look into it and maybe even put some of the game companies on the hot seat on how they take the disabled community into consideration for their games.

I'm also including my number in case you have questions for me or would like more input from me.

How Time Has Flown By

If you would have told me ten years ago I would witness a world shattering event I would have asked you what drugs you were on. But what started as just another day on campus turned into a day that many still cannot believe happened. Yet many of us remember it as if it were yesterday.

I was still in Brooklyn College and had gone into the disabilities office to drop off paperwork to request transportation for that weekend. Someone mumbled something about a plane hitting The World Trade Center and my reaction as a TV major was to ask which station reported it. When I was told it was Howard Stern I simply shrugged it off as another of his stunts. Little did I know how wrong I was.

Joe, a friend at the time, and I began making our way to the Whitehead building to relax a but before class and when we got to the building the security guard informed us another plane bad hit. Joe and I looked at each other with the same expression, this was bigger than we thought. We rushed to the elevator and up to the third floor where the TV department was and they already had TVs in the hallway showing the tragedies unfolding in front of us. We couldn't believe what we were seeing that we rushed across the street to SUBO and up to the top floor to see from the roof what was unfolding.

The doors were locked so we shared a window with a professor that was there with his camera taking still photos. He told us we were witnessing history, and it was still just beginning. We rushed back across the street to Whitehead to witness what none of us expected to see. The first tower began to fall and all the group of us in the hall could do was stand there stunned. No horror movie screams or shrieks of terror, just silence. Then the second tower fell and we all knew that campus was the wrong place to be.

Having a pager and cell phone was worthless. As we stepped into the Quad where the entire campus was struggling to get through to others with random signals my instincts reminded me to get to a landline. I then rushed back to the disability office and used a landline phone and finally got my mother on the phone. My father, who worked at the MTA Hudson Pier depot, was alright watching everything from the job and that mom was on her way to get me and then we'd pick up my brother from High School.

I met mom at the municipal parking lot near campus, now a Target, and was more afraid at the point than when the attack happened because the streets were quiet. No people, no buses, random cars and nothing but black sky where I would normally look to see the skyline of the city.

What was normally a 30-minute ride from my brothers high school became half that. Once home I through a tape in my VCR and pressed record and scrounged for other tapes knowing this had to be recorded. I sat and watched the coverage all day and way into the night. Wondering what the future will be.

Ten years later we've had fights over what should happen at the site, terror threats come and go, and the rebuilding has begun with the memorial in place. I've miss placed my hours of tapes from that day and perhaps it's for a reason. Unlike the rest of the country, I don't need the media hype to remind me once a year of what happened. I'm a New Yorker, I LIVED IT! I didn't not lose a loved one but know people who did, I watched buildings I was in as a child collapse like toys, and I drive by the site regularly and remember everytime I go past that area of what happened.

The day will always be remembered and those lost as well. Let's all agree that over the next ten years we stop referring to the site as Ground Zero as it's now a memorial and business buildings, let's stop the month long media hyping and let's ALL remember how we all came together as a country to help those who needed us the most on that date and still need us today when this date returns to remind them of how their lives and the world changed. Remember all year long, not just when it's good for ratings or politics.

A LEGACY COMES TO AN END: JAG PANZER DISBANDS

(25 July 2011 - Colorado Springs, CO) After more than three decades of delivering heavy metal to the masses, Jag Panzer have decided to call it quits.

"We are proud of every album we released and the support we've received from the heavy metal community," states guitarist and founder Mark Briody. " We've played so many places around the world and enjoyed every minute of it but the time has come where we just cannot move forward as a band."

Guitarist Christian Lasegue left the band last month to pursue his degree full time. "Christian did an amazing job on The Scourge of the Light and it was a pleasure working with him," continues Briody. "We wished Christian well but kept this quiet until we found a replacement."

Drummer Rikard Stjernquist says,"Several guitar players applied for the job. It was a pleasant surprise to see so many young guitarists with advanced chops. One player, 19 year old Jake Dreyer, submitted videos of him nailing solos from both Chris Broderick and Christian Lasegue. We were ready to welcome Jake into the band but unfortunately that will not happen. There is no doubt in any of our minds that Jake will go on to be a household name in his own right."

Bassist John Tetley adds a final statement:" In closing, we’d like to send out a huge heartfelt THANK YOU to metal fans throughout the world. You all rule!"

Scythia Post Video Teaser, Reveal Album Art and Track Listing For "...Of Exile"

The Canadian folk metal clan of Scythia have posted a new video teaser on their upcoming album "...Of Exile", again produced by Shaun Thingvold who has engineered on projects with SYL, Fear Factory, Darkest Hour and is the follow up to last year's debut release "..Of War".

TANK Ready For Action As 'WAR MACHINE' Tour Approaches!

Tank have issued a band statement ahead of their forthcoming 'War Machine' Tour which kicks off in Middlesbrough in just two weeks and takes in ten different countries.

This live set will include many classic Tank anthems as well as several tracks from our acclaimed 'War Machine' album (Metal Mind Productions).

After our two shows in Middlesbrough and Newcastle, England on 5th and 6th August, we travel to Poland to play the Metal Hammer festival with Judas Priest at the Spodek.

Then it's Scandinavia for appearances in Norway and Sweden...

Mick Tucker "Tank is coming to get Europe and we're going to kick ass like you wouldn't believe. We just want to get out there and do it now!"

Trurock Open Air in Germany beckons and we're expecting a mass Tank Army to show for that one, then we go west for dates in Portugal and Spain.

Then it's over to Holland and Belgium which are bound to be high octane shows and then it's The Baltic Sea for Rock At Sea...

We can't to see the Tank Infantry on the road. It's been a long time but Tank are back on the road now and that is where we are going to stay.

2011 MDA Telethon To Be Jerry's Last

The following was announced today from MDA:

One of the world's greatest humanitarians of all time, Jerry Lewis has announced he's retiring as host of the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon. "As a labor of love, I've hosted the annual Telethon since 1966, and I'll be making my final appearance on the show this year by performing my signature song, 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. I'll continue to serve MDA as its National Chairman – as I've done since the early 1950's. I'll never desert MDA and my kids."

Having banked some 900 hours of live television time encouraging America to help fuel worldwide research seeking treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases, while simultaneously enabling MDA to provide unparalleled medical and health care services through its national network of some 200 hospital-affiliated clinics, Lewis today confirmed, "It's time for an all new Telethon era. This year's six hour prime-time Telethon on September 4 will be spectacular, and I'm thrilled to be part of it. We're so close to treatments that it's absolutely vital for everyone to tune in and make a generous donation. America has always found a way each year to give me that just one dollar more to help my kids."

MDA President & CEO Gerald C. Weinberg said, "As MDA continues the growth Jerry Lewis has done so much to inspire, all of us who've been privileged to work beside him, and the hundreds of thousands throughout the world affected by the myriad of muscle diseases MDA battles, will acknowledge in our hearts forever the unrivaled role Jerry has played in our lives and the lives of all Americans. We're deeply honored that Jerry Lewis will continue as MDA's National Chairman and we're profoundly grateful for everything he has done and is doing for the Association."

As an individual who has been part of the MDA Telethon, both on and off camera, I knew this day would come yet tried to forget it's inevitability. I want to thank Jerry for everything he's done for the Telethon and the show will not be the same.

When Mickey Leigh – musician and brother of punk rock star Joey Ramone – wrote “I Slept With Joey Ramone – A Punk Rock Family Memoir,” he thought he’d told it all: what it was like to grow up as Joey’s younger brother, how the formation of the Ramones band came to be, the behind the scenes highs and lows of the music business in the tumultuous and exciting punk rock era. But that is not the end of the story! The release of the paperback edition features a previously unpublished epilogue, written by Leigh, which bares the shocking drama that ensued following his brother’s death in 2001.

Even though Joey did not live to see it, passing away just weeks before turning 50, Leigh and his mother Charlotte Lesher were determined to keep their promise to celebrate his birthday in a way Joey himself would have done. Literally within days, an all-star all-out rock and roll super concert and party was conceived and carried out…but not without its own drama. You will read about why the other band members (Johnny, Marky and CJ Ramone) decided not to perform at the event and the death threats which resulted from the craziness. Leigh has unveiled the reasons behind the delay in releasing the posthumous Joey Ramone debut solo album, and the continued harrowing negotiations to acquire the tapes for the forthcoming second CD, which Joey’s mother never got to hear. The deaths of two other founding members of the Ramones – Johnny from cancer and Dee Dee from a drug overdose – also shook the rock world and caused tsunami-like repercussions within Ramones Productions Inc., the company that handles all Ramones-related activities. When Joey’s and Mickey’s mother Charlotte died suddenly, it left Mickey as Joey’s heir and Linda Cummings as Johnny’s heir as joint heads of RPI – not an easy transition which is ongoing even today. All this and more is revealed in detail in the new Epilogue included only in the just-released paperback version.

Freak Show Metal Collective THE NEW JACOBIN CLUB Announce 15th Anniversary Celebration

Freak show metal collective The New Jacobin Club has announced they will be celebrating their 15th Anniversary show on May 14th in their hometown of Saskatoon, SK at The Fez (834B Broadway Ave.). Born out of the Canadian prairies, their shocking theatrics and one of kind metal Broadway spectacle full of disturbing eye-popping visuals, which includes stunts with broken glass, machetes, syringes, staple guns, sledgehammers, torches, and the ever-popular flaming hula hoop has garnered the group a cult following of behemoth proportions.

In addition to their freak show musical, NJC will be premiering re-written and re-orchestrated material from the mid 1990's that will find its way on a limited edition 15th anniversary NJC compilation released later this year.
NJC master The Horde commented on their big 15th.
"We'll be performing again for the first time since last fall as a full seven piece group. We'll still be playing a good chunk of our new album "This Treason," but we've made sure to include songs spanning the 15 years this band's been on stage. We've re-orchestrated and updated a few songs from the 90's, to incorporate the full force of our 2011 line-up into them and forge some links to the band's past. We'll be going into the studio shortly after to record some of these for a 15th anniversary release later this year.

We're also excited to announce that Miss Firecrotch Jones, our resident fire handler (of the Angry Teeth freak show), is hoping to return to the stage with us on May 14th. She spent the better part of the winter in hospital with a serious illness, and for a time in isolation and critical condition. She's been released and has regained a ton of strength and optimism. She's already helped plan parts of the 2011 stage show, which will throw a few new surprises out at our audiences. We're just happy she's recovering so fiercely!"

Since their conception in 1996, NJC has released an EP and four albums their most recent being "THIS TREASON", a concept CD/DVD based on the tragic medieval life and death of England’s notorious warlord Sir Hugh Despenser.

NJC has shared the stage with a diverse roster of touring acts such as NASHVILLE PUSSY, GROOVIE GHOULIES, KMFDM, VOLTAIRE and appeared live on stage with Discovery Channel’s freak show reality program GUINEA PIG.

The Band Sacred Legacy was formed in the early 2006 with Shahyd as the key person of the band,
After the performance in His 1st band “Syn” in the early 2004 he started his own Guitar solo career.
After quitting the band Syn, he started experimenting with many genres of music and got inspired by
Thrash, Melodic and Progressive Metal and neo Classic. He also got inspiration from Japanese Anime
soundtracks .One main reason Shahyd plays music is because of his daughter Mishka, who also
inspires him to keep on going.

In 2006, Shahyd started his own solo career and started working on his first album. He wanted to
bring a change to the Maldivian music scene with his music. So he released his first album on 23rd
September 2006 which was “The Sacred Legacy”. He launched the album with a successful show
featuring Tormenta and Serenity Dies. Thus was the band’s first performance and Shahyds 1st solo
album.

The band has released their 1st album "Apocalypse" on 5th July 2007, on Domination Fest '07. And
also in the same year Sacred Legacy participated in the "Rockstorm Festival: Freak Your Senses" After So many Successful Shows The Band Started working on the 2nd album (Undying Heart) and was Released in November 2008 which was one of the melodical Albums of the year featuring many
Maldivians Artists.

Due to their great music and stunning performance in the Maldives breakout fest 2009, the band has
signed with an endorsement contract with one of the leading companies in Maldives. Fomax Maldives
Pvt. Ltd. In 2010 the band had their greatest success with burn rock concert and breakout festival with has made the band fans base much bigger than before.

The band's current lineup is Shahyd and Iku on Guitars, Azzam on Bass, Wadde on Drums and Bloody
on Vocals. With two successful albums released, the male' winners of last years breakout fest is
currently working on their 3rd album entitled THE LEGACY BEGINS and Shahyd's new solo album
NOSTALGIA.

No Reunion For Sabbath

After everyone accepted the passing of Ronnie James Dio and the realization that the version of Black Sabbath with him in it (now known as Heaven & Hell) was cut off in it's prime, the rumors began. People started to wonder if we would get an original Black Sabbath reunion with Ozzy back in front. The idea was growing like a weed.

Then about a month ago Ozzy came out saying that he'd like to

make one more album with Black Sabbath. Upon this everyone in the rock and metal scene, including myself had a a collective "Holy Shit" moment. Could the reunion of reunions be on the horizon? The fact that Ozzy himself said he'd like to was mind blowing considering recent lawsuits over the name Black Sabbath.

But sadly that "Holy Shit" moment has been stopped dead in it's tracks recently as

Geezer Butler has said that despite rumors there will not be a Black Sabbath reunion which leaves me thinking that Butler is still sore over the Black Sabbath lawsuits of recent times. Which is a sad thought.

The idea of a Black Sabbath reunion is every rock and metal fans wet dream. The essential godfathers of rock and metal going out one last time would be epic, but sadly isn't going to happen any time soon.

But it leads me to wonder, is it the lawsuits over the name Black Sabbath why Geezer Butler has said there will be no reunion or is the idea of dealing with Sharon Osbourne the reason why the reunion will never happen?

The Internet Be For Pirates Says I

Everyone thinks of pirates nowadays and they instantly think of Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom or some other movie created image that we've been given as a reference for pirates. Even the traditional skull and crossbones has lost some of it's meaning. But what we have forgotten here is that pirates are not necessarily the rum-chugging, swash-buckling, foul-mouthed and smelly individuals they are depicted as in most movies. Pirates can be regular everyday people, like you or I. It was only a few decades ago that pirate radio existed, the movie of the same name proves it.

The idea of Pirate Radio was simple; operate from an area outside jurisdiction of anyone's rules and regulations and broadcast on an unused frequency. The movie "Pirate Radio" focused on how in England pirate radio was how rock n roll was heard since it wasn't permitted on "normal" stations. And of course over time society changed and eventually rock n roll was accepted, albeit the definition of rock n roll has changed over the years. And while watching the movie "Pirate Radio" late one night it hit me; pirate radio lives in a new generation and new form.

In a society becoming numb to rock and metal due to a constant influx of half-dressed untalented divas or wannabe thug rappers, a need for airplay has grown for supporters of rock and metal and other unpopular music forms. But there is no way to survive out in international waters a radio station like in "Pirate Radio" but there is a unregulated area bigger than international waters. And that's the internet. A realm that is completely unregulated and uncontrolled by the music industry where any song from any music artist can not only be played but heard worldwide in it's unedited and uncensored form. Which means anyone can get their music played and heard.

And what does this mean? This means that true pirates exist, bringing to the masses what they truly want. The seas are now the internet and the ships are the thousands of internet radio stations funded and DJed by individuals who are sick of what's played on industry and government controlled radio stations. So that makes me a Pirate and I say long live Pirate Radio on the seas of the internet that we sail on. ARRR!

Goodbye 2010

So everyone's done their "wrap" of 2010 so I might as well share my own.

Truth be told my 2010 started much like my 2009 had gone, nothing to brag about. But things changed as quickly as a thunderstorm appears on a hot summers day. One of my closest friends since college got engaged and kept his word and asked me to be his best man. I'm still amazed and honored by that at this time and the wedding was two months ago.

I also saw my brother's heart broken by someone who swore they'd never do such a thing. But my brother is a stronger spirit and soul than the person who broke his heart and has closed that chapter and is possibly on a new chapter with someone new.

My brother and I have done something I never dreamed we would attempt and that's own and operate our own radio station (Bullspike Radio) and are continuing our effort to fight Muscular Dystrophy with our fundraising group Rock Against Dystrophy.

I began to realize my time on this earth as I attended a funeral of a high school friend. Accel, you are not forgotten and will never be. And that was the followed by reuniting with a group of high school friends that I occasionally wondered about.

I've also added friends to my already huge list of friends and had those who I've considered friends become family (unofficially) that I always knew they were.

For once in more years than I wish to remember I am financially comfortable and can thank my cousin Jon for making that possible. To be working is something that I had tried too many years to attain but with no luck. I can now look forward to things instead of having to wait for things to be planned out perfectly.

Health wise it was a great year, minus my brief hospital stay after telethon for exhaustion and dehydration. I burned myself out with so many things by Labor Day that my body just couldn't handle and said "enough". Sometimes we all need that to realize to pace ourselves.

I finally got the tattoo I've wanted to get since I was eighteen and having my grandfather's nickname for me on my arm has brought a sense of calm and sense that anything is possible for my future just as long as I try and continue to be true to myself. Plus the addition of our pups Theo and Harley have added that extra bit of love, nothing like a dog saying hello in the morning to start your day.

If 2011 can continue on the current flow of things for the most part than I'll be content.

How Apple Should Freshen Up

The holidays are just around the corner, or here and gone depending on when your reading this, and everyone is going tech crazy. When talking tech there's one name topping everyone's list; Apple. Whether it's an iPhone, iPad, or iTouch doesn't matter. Customers want it or other companies are trying to duplicate it. But is it worth spending on last years crop or wait and hope Apple freshens up these red hot items.

The first item that is one everyone's list is Apple's iPad, quite possibly the most sought after tablet on the market but was stale upon it's release. For Apple to release a tablet without a camera of any kind made the iPad an automatic no buy on my list and keeps it there. Not to mention that the pricing on it being absurd. So how does Apple correct this stale upon release item?

For starters add the same duel camera system that the current iPhone has. This will double the camera function of other companies tablet's already out now. Secondly the size is still a bit clunky compared to other tablets. By shrinking it a bit it'll be that much easier to carry around while still being large than the iPhone.

And while we are mentioning the iPhone it would be amiss of me to forget how it's latest version is nothing but a glitz and glamour version of it's previous version. The iPhone 4 wasn't completely stale upon release but it was close when compared to the iPhone 3GS. Updating graphics, redesigning the case and adding a new feature that can't be used all the time is far from groundbreaking. But how should Apple improve upon this so that the iPhone 5 (due in June 2011) is a fresh piece of equipment?

The first thing is update the memory capacity. The latest version of the iTouch (basically iPhone minus phone feature) has a 64GB memory version and even larger. It's time the iPhone's memory went higher than 32GB. Two years ago when it was just apps and music that was good, but now with books and movies being added it's time to jump up drastically in it's memory. Secondly, FaceTime needs to be useable without WiFi. What good is having a feature that only good half the time, that's like having a stereo with only half your speakers working. The last thing that needs a minor tweak is the OS. While we are all happy about being able to multitask on the iPhone we should not have every app automatically tossed into the running in background multitask mode. It's annoying that if you go into an app once every few days that you got to remove it from the multitask bar so it doesn't drain your battery. Can't be that hard to do, just make it a drag and drop option like the folders.

So if you didn't already run out to buy an iPad to be one of the cool kids, don't buy it cause it's stale and the fresh crop (2nd generation) will be here soon. As for the iPhone 4, if you have a working iPhone 3GS just wait until June for the iPhone 5. If your iPhone is an older version the decision is yours. But don't wait too long as June isn't as far as you think and you don't want to buy something stale when the fresh crop isn't too far off.

Has The Changing Of The Guard Begun?

The rock and metal community has lots of colors that are flown and some have been at the forefront of the battle to support it for years. Those bands include Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, KISS, Scorpions, Judas Priest and several others depending on your preferences. And for years those were the bands we all look for on tours and such. But could that guard be changing to the next generation? Scorpions announced their Farewell Tour this year and today Judas Priest has announced that 2011 starts the beginning of their Farewell Tour, which is rocking the rock and metal community as we speak.

First reactions I'm noticing from people online is "yeah, sure. It's a PR move." And I can't blame those speculating about this announcement because we all know how KISS, a band I am a HUGE supporter of, announced a Farewell Tour 10-years ago and yet they have toured several times since. KISS even put out a new studio album this year (Sonic Boom) and they are already talking about doing another. So the argument can be made that Judas Priest might be doing the same thing.

But if you know them and followed them over the years you know that Judas Priest does what they say they are going to do. When they first announced that they were going to do a concept album everyone joked and said that it wouldn't be because concept albums don't usually work for rock and metal bands nowadays. Yet in the summer of 2008 they delivered with Nostradamus, which two years later is still a questionable album from them. So if they say that after 40-years of screaming for vengeance and making sure all those in the rock and metal community are united that Judas Priest is calling it quiets then I say believe it.

This rocker is anxiously awaiting the US dates as I'll be hitting whatever the local destination is by hook or by crook. And I'm left wondering two things; who'll be next of the guard to bid farewell and is the next generation after them ready to take the reigns?

A Change At THOR

On Cruise Control For A Bit

As you may or may not know by now, I was hospitalized last week for a few days for exhaustion and dehydration. I overdid things and forgot to make time to relax and eat during my work on the NY segment of the MDA Telethon. I have been home since Friday and am regaining my strength slowly.

Because I am committed to several things in the upcoming weeks I am putting THE ASYLUM on a break so that I can rest and still make those commitments which include The Official Launch Party for Bullspike Radio on September 23rd at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn and Rock Against Dystrophy at Cha Cha's in Coney Island on October 2nd.

I have an episode of THE ASYLUM in the vault. I am hoping to be back on air in full or partial within the next few weeks. Once I know I will post details and keep listening to BullspikeRadio.com as it's not stopping cause I gotta hit cruise control. Jay Scorpion and the gang are still going strong and I'm still there behind the scenes.

Thanks for the well wishes last week and I'll see you on September 23rd at The Trash Bar and Rock Against Dystrophy in Coney Island on October 2nd.

Telethon Is My End Of Summer Tradition

Every year people make plans for vacations and barbecues to end their summers and I just sit and listen to those plans while secretly praying for a cloudy, disgusting Labor Day Weekend. Why do I pray to the metal gods to clouds? So that people will be more inclined to stay home in front of their televisions searching for something to watch and hope that it's the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. And that while they watch they are inclined to make a donation for a cause that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Ever since the age of 4 my Labor Day weekend has been spent in a TV studio as MDA has gathered people who care to put on a show and inform people about a disease that's been around for decades and ask people to donate any amount they can afford to give in the hopes of a cure being discovered. And in those 26 years I've been part of every aspect of it from being a goodwill ambassador as a child to part of the production crew now. From being a young child just asking for people to help those like me to producing videos that share the lives in individuals with Muscular Dystrophy so that the viewers can see how the money they've donated over the years helps individuals with Muscular Dystrophy lead a life as close to normal as possible.

And I sit here now writing this on the eve of the Telethon and try to conserve my energy for another Labor Day weekend of working to make sure more people know about MDA and what it does. Making sure more money is raised towards finding a cure, towards helping a family afford a wheelchair, towards giving a child with a form of Muscular Dystrophy a week of fun at MDA Summer Camp, and so much more that I'd be here for days writing everything. And I think about how tired I will be by the end of the show and I can't think of anything else I'd want to do this weekend.

Barbecues happen all summer long and vacations can happen anytime of year. So why not join my Labor Day weekend tradition and be part of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon by watching it, making a donation and telling your friends and neighbors to do the same. This is a tradition that matters and can make a difference in a persons life.

Rock Against Dystrophy To Be Featured On The MDA Telethon

The 2010 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon is this weekend and Rock Against Dystrophy will be there.

This past weekends Rock Against Dystrophy Karaoke Wheel of Death was filmed and will be aired during the last hour of the Telethon in the New York/New Jersey Area on My9. John "Turbo" Shatesky, co-founder of Rock Against Dystrophy, will be live in studio to present a check for how much Rock Against Dystrophy has raised this year and will announce when and where the next Rock Against Dystrophy fundraiser will be happening.

New York/New Jersey viewers can tune in to My9 for the Telethon, which starts Sunday September 5th at 9PM EST. All other areas check your local listings for time and channel. And most importantly, please make a donation and help us knock out MD.

Things That Make Summer Summer

We're now in the month of August, some even considered it the dog days of summer, and while I'm amazed how fast the year is going it also got me thinking. Every assumes it's Summer when the pools open and it's warm enough to barbecue. But there are pools open year round and with the right crazy family member you can barbecue in the snow if you wanted to. To me it's the little things that often go unnoticed.

First is something I'm doing while writing this very piece, watching "Jaws" on cable. In the past few years it seems clockwork that once summer hits this movie lands in rotation on every cable channel possible. It was originally released in theaters in the summer and just screams summer. Travel to a local island, swimming, sailing, and of sharks. I add sharks to that list because it's only in the summer that people worry about sharks; maybe it goes hand in hand with the movie airing.

Then there's the movie "The Sandlot", which screams summer. Not because it's about baseball, the worlds slowest sport after golf and curling, but because it's about kids spending their summer vacation enjoying themselves and being kids. Kids out playing and having fun is what summer was about for so many of us yet nowadays kids would sooner sit in the AC or have parents who schedule every minute of their days off with "educational" or "enriching" things to do. Kids playing in yards, parks, and streets is very enriching for them and defines what summer is.

And while I mention streets you have to include music in the streets. Whether it's a free show for the public, coming out of someones car or house, or your neighbor at the beach you are surrounded by music in the summer. And it doesn't matter if it's a genre you like as it sets the mood and time in your memory. I can't tell how how many times I've heard a song on the radio or stereo in the middle of a winter snow storm that reminds me of a warm summer day from a time gone by.

So while your out and about bitching about how hot it is, take a moment and appreciate the subtle things that make summer summer. After all it won't be long before we're bombarded with holiday specials and cold weather and you'll be wishing it was summer again.

Beast Selects Best Metal CD

The Revolution Music Label is pleased to announce THE release called the Beast Selects Best Metal CD. The CD is to Raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association World Wide. 100% of the proceeds of all Profits will go to MDA. There are many great artists that have donated songs to this project. iPhone 4G Can Be Skipped

Last summer I joined the technologically advanced world of smart phones when I bought the iPhone 3GS. The total package made financial sense, finally, and I jumped at getting it. It's a year later and Apple has announced what the iPhone 4G is going to feature and when it's going to drop. And even though I am very eligible to upgrade, the truth is that it's not worth it and I'll explain my reasoning.

The first thing I will say before going on is none of my reasons for not upgrading are connected to AT&T. Everyone has been quick the bash AT&T and it's service to iPhone users and make that the backbone complaint. What people need to realize that if one of the other companies had the exclusive rights to the iPhone as long as AT&T has then that network would be suffering from the same issues that AT&T is working on correcting. So anyone who uses AT&T as a complaint is someone with just flat out dislike for the company.

As to my reasons to why you might want to skip the iPhone 4G, starting point would be the software update. The long awaited multi-tasking is coming with iOS4. Now you can multi-task, make folders to organize your apps instead of searching through pages to find the one you want, and personalize your iPhone with a background image. But this software is going to be a free download and will work on the iPhone 3GS. Sure the newer phone has the 4G chip [made by Apple], but I doubt it's that much faster than the 3G.

Second is the introduction of the front facing camera and the video conferencing feature that Apple is calling Face Time. This feature was leaked a few months ago and upon reading up on it the truth is that it's all hype. Face Time can only be used over WiFi and to iPhone 4G users. So if your not near WiFi and/or the person you want to conference with does not have the iPhone 4G, then this feature is useless. Plus it will be months if not a full year before app developers will be able to figure out how to properly and creatively use the front facing camera.

And there is NO memory increase with the iPhone 4G. Last year the iPhone jumped from 16-GB to 32-GB, which was the big selling point for me last summer. As Apple went through their presentation Monday introducing a better still camera, HD video capabilities with iMovies [editing software], and the addition of the iBookstore, we all figured a increase in memory was naturally coming. But when the announced the memory size it was still just a 32-GB maximum. How can you add HD capabilities with editing software and the availability of downloading books and NOT increase the memory size. By not expanding to storage size to at least 64-GB is as big a lapse in judgment as leaving multi-tasking absent for so long.

The iPhone 4G has been overhyped and had features like the gyroscope tossed in to distract people from it's minor differences from to iPhone 3GS in hopes that those obsessed with "shiny and new" will run out to buy it and realize afterwards that they jumped the gun. If your iPhone is first or second generation look into the iPhone 4G if you need to upgrade. But if your a current iPhone 3GS owner, like myself, wait to see if a 64-GB or bigger version is announced or wait until the 2011 iPhone is released.
